​This is an opportunity for high school students in Surry County and Yadkin County to complete an internship in a local business, gain valuable real-world experience, earn high school credit, college credit, industry-recognized credentials, a financial stipend and get paid for travel!

Education, Employment, & Economic Development

Education:
Teaching critical leadership and soft skills, such as goal setting, interpersonal communication, and team building to ensure students are well prepared to engage in work and life. In addition, work-based learning to facilitate job showing, internships, co-ops, work-study programs and apprenticeships connecting students with career opportunities and local employers.
Employment:
Ensuring access to relevant training opportunities to connect students to employers based on employer need in order to increase a skilled workforce in our community.
Economic Development:
Cultivating collaborative Partnerships with businesses to invest in the development of a well-prepared and highly engaged workforce.

Our Mission

Elkin City Schools, Mount Airy City Schools, Surry County Schools and Yadkin County School are working together with the assistance of Surry Community College to support the economic vitality of our region by matching interns to meet the needs of the community with business partners.  Together we will prepare students for work-based learning, assist with industry-recognized credentials, and Career & Technical high school and college courses. In addition, we will provide mutually beneficial links between students and employers with the goal of increasing skilled workers in our community. 

Industry-Recognized Credentials & Related Education Training

Partnering with Surry Community College, interns will receive training in the following areas:
  • Human Resource Development Skills (Soft Skills)
  • Public Speaking
  • Microsoft Outlook & Excel
  • DiSC Behavioral Assessment
  • Introduction to LEAN Manufacturing
  • Personal Finance
  • Resume/Job Interview/Job Searching Skills
  • OSHA 10-Hour Training
  • Students will als earn high school credit for their internship experience
  • Industry specific college courses & certifications
