The HEALTH branch of Surry-Yadkin Works is a dynamic and comprehensive approach to building the pipeline of future healthcare employees. The HEALTH team consists of two healthcare career liaisons and a health science advisor through student services. Our Healthcare Career Liaison’s serve as the liaison between our school systems, SCC, and our local healthcare organizations.
We offer three cohorts, Fall, Spring, and Summer, of CNA pre-apprenticeship opportunities for both youth and adults. Students are placed into a pre-apprenticeship for a semester long experience at one of our local facilities. We currently have students placed at Hugh Chatham Health, Northern Regional Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice, Ridgecrest, and Chatham Nursing and Rehab. Throughout the experience students are able to work as CNAs in a variety of areas inside the hospital facilities and outside in clinical specialty areas. At the end of the pre-apprenticeship, students move into PRN (as needed) employment, are offered an apprenticeship spot, or complete their semester of their pre-apprenticeship and are recognized as a Pre-Apprentice completer. It is a win-win opportunity for both the student and the employer because it truly gives each student a trial period to explore their passion and see if healthcare is the right fit for them.
In addition to overseeing the CNA pre-apprentices throughout each semester, the healthcare career liaisons also develop and implement health science programs for our middle school and high schools.

Future Healthcare Leaders Ignite Camp
Interested in a career in medicine or the healthcare field? Not sure yet? Join us for an engaging and hands-on camp that explores opportunities in the community learning about healthcare careers. Students will tour facilities, hear from experts in the field, learn and practice hands-on skills, participate in scenarios and more. Lunch will be provided each day. 6th-12th Grade SCC Summer Career Exploration Camp
Students will learn about pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship opportunities available through Surry-Yadkin Works. They will also learn about the Integumentary and Cardiovascular systems, creating faux wounds and the healing process, and blood components through engaging hands-on activities. Health Science Camps

Registered pre-apprentices have 120 days from the day they graduate to transition into an apprenticeship to remain eligible for the waiver. This program covers tuition and registration fees. The following fees are not covered that apprentices would be responsible for: books, lab fees, campus resources, & ancillary fees and expenses.
